Shawn Meager Home Woodland Garden May 16, starting at 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
I am a biology professor at WIU and have always been interested in biological diversity. I moved into my house in Macomb 10 years ago and have gradually replaced about one-third of my small lawn with native plants. I began by putting shade-tolerant forest wildflowers under one large tree and have expanded to include sun-loving prairie plants along the street. My yard has become my passion and entertainment: whether waking up in the morning or relaxing in the evening, I enjoy watching plants return in spring, insects pollinate them, and birds eat insects. I have become a big fan of Dr. Doug Tallamy, who promotes the idea of providing habitat to support native wildlife and to create a Homegrown National Park™, one yard at a time.
