Vision Matters: Steps to Lifelong Eye Health
More than 7 million Americans are estimated to live with vision impairment, with higher rates often seen in rural communities. Interestingly, many people fear losing their vision more than losing their memory, hearing, or speech, yet they frequently delay routine eye care. Neglecting eye health can significantly increase the risk of vision loss, as many serious eye diseases develop without noticeable early symptoms.
Maintaining good eye health is essential for preserving independence and quality of life. Therefore, understanding what puts you at risk for vision impairment and implementing simple lifestyle choices can play a powerful role in protecting your vision. University of Illinois Extension is teaming up with the Senior Resource Center to offer Vision Matters: Steps to Lifelong Eye Health on Wednesday, April 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Senior Resource Center, 206 E Stephenson St, Freeport, IL.
In this program, participants will learn about common eye conditions, including cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration. The program will also explore nutrition strategies that support eye health, practical tips to prevent digital eye strain, and everyday habits that may increase or decrease the risk of developing vision problems. Join us to discover proactive steps you can take to keep your eyes healthy for years to come.
