Trash Blast at Giant City State Park
Illinois Extension is partnering with Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Giant City State Park and Lake Murphysboro State Park to protect our local natural resources by hosting a fall Trash Blast on Saturday, June 13 from 10-Noon at Giant City State Park.
During Trash Blasts we will break into small teams of volunteers to collect litter from selected sites. We find items as large as tires to tiny micro trash. No matter what we find we try to remove it to help restore the area to its natural state.
Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, bring gloves, long pants and closed-toed shoes to be prepared. If you do not have gloves we can help provide them for you. Trash buckets and trash grabbers will be provided for volunteers to use during the trash blast. But you are encouraged to bring your own. Don't forget to bring your own water to stay hydrated or snacks to refuel. This event is limited to 23 participants.
If you would like to learn more about this program or need a reasonable accommodation to participate, please contact Erica Lunde at eplunde@illinois.edu. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting access needs.
