Teen Teachers Training "What's Your Spark" Fall 2023

This program is no longer accepting registrations.  Please contact 4-H Youth Development Educator Shannon Range for questions.  SLRange@illinois.edu.

This fall, teens will have the opportunity to learn not only what their "spark" is (interests), but also learn leadership skills and put their knowledge and skills to the test in optional Teen Teacher hosted workshops to showcase their skills.

When youth know what their "spark" is, they are more likely to be excited about the project or topic and will want to teach younger youth about it.  Through reviewing 4-H state programs, project guides, and Spark Sheets, youth will make a list of their top 2 projects and/or topics, learn about them, and possibly host a presentation or workshop.

When teens complete this series, they will be well on their way to earning the name of Teen Teacher!  They will have additional tasks and learning to complete, on their own time, during this program to get to the required hours to earn the Teen Teacher title.

Topics teens will learn about and practice may include any or all of the items below.
  • What is a leader and how you can be one/or a better one?
  • Ways to lead in 4-H, at home, at school, and in your communities.
  • Teaching styles to include 4-H's BIG-M (Belonging, Independence, Generosity, and Mastery)
  • Public speaking
  • And more!

All youth age 12-18 from any county and regardless of 4-H status are welcome to attend.

The programs will take place at the Wilton Township Building, 14355 W Joliet Rd, Manhattan, IL 60442.  Additional OPTIONAL dates may be added based on Teen Teacher workshop additions.

  • Tuesday, 10/17, 5-6 PM
  • Tuesday, 11/21, 5-6 PM Teen Teacher Peter will host a geology workshop 5:50 - 6:15 PM
  • Tuesday, 1/16, 5-6 PM Teen Teachers Avery & Peter will host a public speaking workshop 5:50 - 6:15 PM
  • Tuesday, 2/20, 5-6 PM CULMINATING EVENT - May last longer.
