Taking Care of Diabetes Together

Feel confident supporting your clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have diabetes. In this free 3-part webinar series, participants will gain essential knowledge and practical skills to confidently support daily diabetes management.

This series offers training for staff supporting adults in community integrated living arrangements (CILAs), day programs, and other programs. If multiple staff from the same facility plan to attend, register each person separately (even if the group will watch trainings together). Family members and caregivers are welcome to join the trainings.

Continuing Education Units  
CEUs are approved for Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals (QIDPs) (last updated 10/30/2025).

Lesson Descriptions:
  • Diabetes 101: Your clients may not fully understand how diabetes affects their health. This session will equip you with the knowledge to explain diabetes in a way that’s accessible and meaningful to them. Learn what diabetes is, including types, signs and symptoms, risk factors, and long-term effects.
  • Eating for Balanced Blood Sugar: Help your clients avoid blood sugar highs and lows so they have the energy to thrive each day. Learn how the foods we eat affect blood sugar and how to support healthy, balanced meals and snacks.
  • Monitoring and Motivation: It's not all about food. Learn how to encourage healthy habits, support independence, and build confidence in managing blood sugar with physical activity, emotional wellness, and medications.
