Summer Herbarium Specimen Preparation for Plants of Concern

Do you love plants? Are you always hoping to catch a sneak peek at a new and rare plant?
Then come to the Johnson and Union County Extension Offices and learn how to prepare herbarium sheets! We will be taking rare plant samples collected by Chris Benda, mounting them, and returning them to the SIU Herbarium library. Completed herbarium specimens will benefit the Plants of Concern program, a citizen scientist initiative, as well as the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Herbarium.
Have no fear, we will provide all the training and materials. Register today, as participation will be limited to 10 volunteers per session. Your drive time and time spent mounting samples will count toward volunteer hours.
