Strong and Steady: Tai Chi and Wellness Education for Healthy Aging is an eight-week series designed to help adults build strength, confidence, and resilience as they age. Each week includes gentle Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention to improve balance, flexibility, and mobility, along with engaging “Eat and Educate” sessions where participants can enjoy a boxed lunch (available for a fee) while learning practical strategies for healthy living. Educational topics include nutrition, arthritis management, cooking for one or two, brain health, stress management, and other tools to support lifelong wellness. Together, these sessions provide a welcoming space to move, learn, and connect while building a strong foundation for healthy aging.
Special Tai Chi Information- Participation in 14 of the 16 classes is recommended for optimal benefit. We will learn new forms each lesson, so registration will not be allowed after the start of the second class. Please wear comfortable clothing and proper footwear. Slides/sandals will not be allowed.
*Please consult with your physician before beginning any exercise program. When participating in any physical activity program, there is a risk of physical injury. You agree that, by participating in this program, you have had the opportunity to consider the potential risks related to this activity, and you are satisfied that you understand them. You agree that you voluntarily participate in these activities and assume all risk of injury to yourself. You expressly agree, on behalf of yourself, your heirs, and assigns, to release and indentify the University of Illinois and its agents from all claims or causes of action, and you agree to voluntarily waive any right that you, your heirs, or assigns, may otherwise have to bring a legal action against the University of Illinois or its agents for personal injury or property damage. If any portion of this release shall be deemed by a Court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, then that portion shall be stricken, and the remainder of this release shall remain in full force and effect.
Additional Eat and Educate Information- Eat and Educate classes will be held every Thursday from noon to 1 starting Thursday, April 16. These are being held just before Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention classes. A box lunch will be provided each week at a cost of $XXXX (have to get this figured out). Participants who wish to receive a lunch must indicate so on each week’s registration and bring either a check or cash on the day of the program.
The University of Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in programming, please contact Robin Ridgely at rridgely@illinois.edu. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time to meet your needs.
