Stephenson County 4-H SUPER SATURDAY 2026

Join us for Super Saturday on April 18, 2026 for a morning of fun! Kids will have the opportunity to gain hands-on learning that will have them DOING, THINKING, and CREATING!
The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Noon at Stephenson County Farm Bureau, 210 W. Spring Street, Freeport, IL. Lunch will NOT be provided.

COST: There is a $5.00 fee for each participant.

SESSION CHOICES:
Select three activities—one per session. Please register for each activity only once per youth. 
 
Build A Bluebird House          Instructor: Tom Mulder
Description: Ages 8 & up. Build a bluebird house while learning basic woodworking skills. Practice measuring, cutting, and assembling to create a functional habitat that supports local wildlife and enhances your outdoor space. Bring a standard claw hammer
Additional Fee: $5
 
Edible Art Display          Instructor: Tashara Grandys, U of I Extension Educator 
Description: Ages 8 & up. Join this session for a hands-on, creative experience! Learn basic knife skills and turn fresh fruit into a colorful, edible masterpiece. Come explore how healthy food can be fun, artistic, and delicious!
 
Leathercraft Key Chains          Instructors: Pat and Shirley Henn
Description: Ages 8 & up. Learn basic leathercraft skills while creating your own keychain. This hands-on session covers basic techniques for a fun and practical project.
Additional Fee: $3 

Snack Time Fun          Instructors: Stephenson County Association for Home and Community Education (HCE) Members
Description: Ages 8 & up. Feeling hungry? Join HCE members as they show you how to make a few quick and easy snacks you can enjoy anytime.

Shooting Sports          Instructors: Mike & Lisa Schmidt and Ben Fellows
Description: Ages 8 & up. Come learn what shooting sports is all about. Youth will get the opportunity to learn proper techniques for both archery and shotgun with our shooting sport coaches. Practice will be involved too, with targets!
 
Mix, Stretch, Slime!          Instructor: Claire Reese
Description: Ages 8 & up. Create your own slime while exploring basic science concepts. Mix simple ingredients to experiment with texture, color, and stretchiness in this fun, hands-on activity.
 
Sweet Start: Cream Cheese Mints          Instructor: Lisa Schmidt
Description: Ages 8 & up. Introductory session to the candy-making project area. Learn to make cream cheese mints while practicing mixing, shaping, and decorating a sweet treat perfect for sharing or special occasions.

Upcycled Book Art            Instructor: Abby Mielke, Sunny Hill Craft Co.
Description: Ages 8 & up Upcycled Book Art
Transform old books into beautiful creations. Explore simple techniques to transform forgotten books and book pages into unique pieces of art from flowers, garlands and other seasonal decor while promoting sustainability and creativity. (See a photo on page 1 for an example.)
 
T-Shirts to Tail Wags          Instructor: Claire Reese
Description: Ages 8 & up. Turn old t-shirts into fun, durable dog toys in this hands-on community service project. Learn simple crafting techniques while helping pets in need and giving back to your community.
Please bring an old t-shirt or two to use and donate
 
Animal Disease and Health          Instructor: Hannah Slamp, Highland Community College
Description: Ages 10 & up. Identify common diseases of livestock animals, understand the difference between different types of vaccination and how to vaccinate on skin dummies, and learn about the basis of an animal's health: the cell by creating an edible cell.

Blooming Centerpiece Beginner           Instructor: Cindy Storz
Description: Ages 8 & up. Create a beginner-friendly floral display. Learn basic floral design techniques, including arranging, color coordination, and balance, while crafting a beautiful centerpiece for your home. Bring a small vase or container to use.
Additional Fee: $7
 
Blooming Centerpiece Advanced          Instructor: Cindy Storz
Description: Ages 8 & up. Design an advanced round centerpiece while refining floral design skills. Focus on composition, color harmony, balance, and technique to create a polished, professional-quality arrangement suitable for display. Bring a small vase or container to use.

Cloverbuds: Farm Fun          Instructors: Bonnie Campbell and Pat Yeagle
Description: Ages 5-7. Cloverbuds explore farm animals through hands-on activities. Make butter, decorate a sign, play with clay, and create a fun make-and-take item while learning about life on the farm.
