Sibley Burr Oak Grove Work Day October 11, 2025

Thank you so much for your interest in stewardship work at the historic Sibley Grove in Sibley, Illinois!

Sibley Burr Oak Grove Invasive Removal

Date: October 11, 2025
Time: 9 am - 12 pm
Place: Sibley Burr Oak Grove Nature Preserve, Main Parking lot and along North side of Grove
          Sibley, IL

  • Please wear long pants, shoes, and work gloves. 
  • We will be removing bush honeysuckle as well as other invasives. 
  • If you have an Illinois Pesticide Applicator or Operator's license, please come prepared to apply herbicide (glyphosate) to woody stumps. 
    • Please email Karla (kherzma2@illinois.edu) a copy of your license
    • If you attended the herbicide training with Extension in January, Extension has your certification, and you can apply herbicide with the guidance of a licensed individual. 
  • Participants will only be allowed to use an electric device if they have taken a chainsaw safety course and bring their own PPE. All liability is held by the individual. 
    • Please send proof of chainsaw training to Karla Griesbaum (kherzma2@illinois.edu)
  • There will be no bathroom available. Public restrooms can be found at Sibley Park, by railroad tracks & Rt 47 


The Nature Conservancy requires a signed Waiver of Liability to enter the site.  After registration, you will be emailed a fillable waiver form.  We strongly recommend completing the waiver immediately and sending it to kherzma2@illinois.edu, or mailing to Karla Griesbaum, 801 N Country Fair Dr. Champaign, IL 61821. Waivers will be accepted the morning of the event, but access to the grove will not be permitted without one! *If you signed a waiver in November 2024, your waiver is good until November 2025
