Saving the World, One Box Turtle at a Time

Saving the World, One Box Turtle at a Time
Everyday Environment Webinar Series
Thursday, August 21 at 1pm CT

Have you ever come across a box turtle? Box turtles are charismatic turtles in the United States that are long-lived, omnivorous, and utilize both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. These characteristics make them uniquely sensitive to the health of the environments they inhabit and good indicators of ecosystem health. The Wildlife Epidemiology Lab at the University of Illinois has conducted health assessments of over 4000 turtles in the last 18 years with the intent in understanding the threats to this species and developing strategies to save it. Come learn what they've discovered during nearly 2 decades of research.
Presenter: Dr. Matt Allender, Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Wildlife Epidemiology Laboratory, University of Illinois
