Pyramid State Park Winter Hike and Bird

We're sorry, but registration for this event is full.  Please contact Kevin Rohling to be placed on a wait list:  krohling@illinois.edu

Pyramid State Park is the largest state park in Illinois at almost 20,000 acres. The land was formerly strip-mined and reclaimed as forest, grassland, and ponds and is now home to a diversity of wildlife, from bobcats to owls. Join us January 11, 3:30-6:00pm on an afternoon hike, where we’ll see some of the restoration forests and ponds. Then, we’ll drive to a more open area of Pyramid SP to watch for birds along the roadside. We’re likely to see many different winter birds, including a shift from soaring northern harriers to other species around sunset time (5:15pm) to just after dark.

We’ll meet at the Crystal Lake Parking Lot near the trailhead, just west of the park office (38.00610, -89.42163).  This hike will be co-led by Kevin Rohling, Extension Specialist, and Kim Rohling, Extension Educator, and is a collaborative hike offered by the Shawnee Group of the Sierra Club and Illinois Extension. Sorry, no pets allowed.
