Prescribed Fire Basic Training

We're sorry, registration is closed for this event.  We hope to see you another time soon.  Please contact Kevin Rohling krohling@illinois.edu for questions or to inquire about a wait list.

Prescribed fire can be complex and difficult in many respects, but also provides numerous benefits. This training opportunity will provide an overview of prescribed fire, including reasons to burn, burn plans, preparations, weather considerations, permits, training options, tools, risks, hazards, and effects on vegetation and wildlife. This will be a broad introduction for those new to prescribed fire or a refresher for those with more experience with controlled burning.  We’ll begin with an indoor presentation and discussion followed by an outdoor tool demonstration and practice scenario (no live fire).  Additional information, training opportunities, and volunteer opportunities will be discussed for those who are interested in learning more.

This event will be held January 25 at 12:30pm-3:00pm at the Monroe County Annex Building, 901 Illinois Ave, Waterloo, IL 62298.  In the event of severe weather, this event may be postponed and an email will be sent to registered participants a day or two in advance.  Please reach out with any questions to Kevin Rohling at krohling@illinois.edu or 618-695-3383

This event is being offered in cooperation with Clifftop http://www.clifftopalliance.org/, working "to promote the conservation, preservation, and protection of the Mississippi River bluffs corridor in Monroe, Randolph and St. Clair Counties."
