Illinois is home to 21 different native oak species and oaks are one of the most important plant groups in the state.
This 3-hour virtual workshop will discuss oaks information on oaks in general and go into detail on each of Illinois' 21 native oak species, covering their ecology, range, and identification.
Workshop agenda:
- 1:00-1:40 - Oak diversity and distribution in Illinois, oak ecology and importance to Illinois ecosystems
- 1:40-2:10 - Oak identification basics, red vs white oaks, important characteristics for ID
- 2:10-2:20 - Break
- 2:20-3:45 - Illinois native oak species - identification, habitat, and distribution
- 3:45-4:00 - Questions and workshop wrap-up
The workshop will include interactive elements nd plenty of opportunity for review and questions. This workshop is free and open to the public. ISA continuing education credits have been applied for.
