Native Landscape Design Classes 2026

The registration period has ended.
Transform your garden into a pollinator-friendly, sustainable haven with the Native Landscape Design Drawing Workshop! This program will guide participants in redesigning a defined garden area in their own yards using native plants. Learn how to create a beautiful, eco-friendly space that supports local pollinators and promotes environmental sustainability.

Upon registration, participants will be sent a 1-hour presentation that serves as a complimentary prerequisite for our In-Person Native Plant Design Workshops.  We ask participants to view this recording prior to our workshop.  Information from this virtual session will be reviewed in our In-Person Workshops and used to help you create an actual design drawing using all Illinois-native plants.  This session was recorded on Thursday, January 10, 2025.

Workshops, held at various dates and locations in Vermilion and Champaign Counties, provide guidance on drafting a personalized garden layout, selecting plants from curated palettes of native species, and developing a sustainable garden design. Attendees are encouraged to bring measurements of their garden space to this session so they can lay out plants in a real-world design. A hypothetical design can also be developed in this session if attendees don't have a planting location identified.  Basic drafting tools will be available for use during the workshop.

Drawing Workshop Dates:
  1. March 23, 2026, Champaign County (Extension Office)) 6-8 pm.
  2. April 6, 2026, Vermilion County (Extension Office). 1-3 pm.

Join us to create a garden design that’s not only beautiful but also creates a vital resource for local wildlife!
