Motivation Monday: Diabetes at the Y
Understanding how food impacts blood sugar can increase your confidence to manage diabetes day-to-day. Join Illinois Extension for educational sessions to strengthen your knowledge and skills. Recipe demonstrations and food samples are provided.

March 23: What is a Carb? Identify foods with carbohydrates and how carbs and other nutrients impact your blood sugar. Practice planning meals that improve blood sugar management using tools like carbohydrate counting and Plate Method. Register by March 19.
April 20: Diabetes and the Heart. Diabetes is a risk factor for developing heart disease. Learn how four categories of nutrients impact heart health and develop skills around shopping and cooking heart-healthy and diabetes-friendly meals. Register by April 16.
May 18: Desserts, Drinks, and Blood Sugar. Sweet treats and drinks have a place in diabetic meal plans. This session will discuss portion sizes, alternative sweeteners, and food pairing methods. Register by May 14.
June 15: Fueling the Workout. Exercise is a helpful strategy in diabetes management. Since blood sugar can change in response to movement, explore safe ways to eat before, during, and after a workout. Register by June 11.
