Mid-Year Federal Legislative Update

Legislative developments occur year round, and it can be a challenge to keep informed as they occur. These federal policy decisions made in Washington, D.C. shape the programs, funding and regulatory environment that local governments rely on to serve their communities. From transportation infrastructure and housing investments to agricultural and rural development programs, emerging federal legislation can create significant opportunities and challenges for local government.
This year, Extension's Local Government Education series has added this special Mid-Year Federal Legislative Update, hosted by University of Illinois Extension and the National Association of Counties (NACo), to provide attendees with an extra opportunity to focus on these important federal policy developments and stay up-to-date on these opportunities and challenges.

Our speakers will include:
Rachel Yeung, Associate Legislative Director at NACo for Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Yeung monitors county priorities on agriculture, rural development and food systems. She will provide an update on the current status of Farm Bill negotiations and what they mean for counties.

Ben Gilsdorf, Legislative Director for Transportation at NACo. Gilsdorf covers federal transportation policies that recognize counties' roles as major owners and operators of roads, bridges, public transit systems, ports and airports. He will provide an update on surface transportation reauthorization and its implications for Illinois counties and local governments.
Jared Grigas, Associate Legislative Director for Community, Economic and Workforce development at NACo. Grigas follows housing, community and economic development, public works and workforce issues. He will discuss the recent passage of the federal housing reform package and what implementation means for counties moving forward.
NACo is a bi-partisan organization, based in Washington D.C., which works to ensure county priorities are represented in federal legislation packages.
This 1-hour program will begin at 12 pm noon CT. Participants will have an opportunity to engage during a Q&A session at the end of the presentation. All registrants will receive a follow-up email with a webinar recording and program materials.
