Mastering the Slow Cooker
Food has always played a powerful role in bringing people together, whether hosting a family holiday, gathering with friends, or attending a community event. Sharing meals enriches our lives, building strong emotional, physical, and mental connections. In fact, the people we eat with can influence our food choices, helping shape healthier habits and lifestyles.
This month, let us help you build healthy connections and healthy meals at the Stephenson County Senior Resource Center, 206 E Stephenson St, Freeport, IL, with our upcoming program, Mastering the Slow Cooker, presented by University of Illinois Extension, on Friday, October 3, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Slow cookers, commonly called Crock-Pots, have been a trusted kitchen appliance for decades. Whether you’re cooking for one or preparing meals for a family, they offer a convenient and cost-effective way to create hearty, healthy dishes with minimal effort, which is helpful when you have limited time, energy, or ideas of what to make for dinner.
With a bit of planning and know-how, your slow cooker can help you serve everything from soups and stews to desserts and more. During this program, we will cover slow cooker basics, such as selecting the correct size and shape to make the most of your cooking time, and the best time to add various ingredients to maximize the taste and texture of foods. We will also discuss food safety, have a taste test, and leave you with recipes to try at home.
