Thank you for your interest in the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener Program. The Master Gardener program is designed for adults of all ages that desire the opportunity to learn about horticulture and positively impact our local community.
The 2025 Master Gardener training will be limited to 20 people. Preregistration is required. The training will include 8 select Thursday evenings in-person lessons. Local field trips will be arranged and announced at a later date. Trainees will be responsible for studying out of class, which includes readings and viewing videos.
The fee for the 2025 Master Gardener training is $200.
Master Gardener trainees complete a minimum of 60 hours of training and then agree to complete 60 hours volunteer service within two years to become a Certified Master Gardener. To maintain certification, Master Gardeners must complete 20-hours volunteer service and take 10-hours of continuing education.
The 2025 Master Gardener Training will be held on select Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning February 27, 2025 and ending June 5, 2025.
Training will be held the following Thursdays:
February 27
March 13 & 27
April 10 & 24
May 8 & 22
June 5
5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Most trainings will be held in room 210 at the Highland Community College Student Conference Center, 2998 W. Pearl City Road, Freeport. Use Parking Lot A.
