Lessons from Leopold
Lessons from Leopold
Tuesday, October 6th, 2026. 7-8pm. University of Illinois Extension Auditorium. 100 US Highway 45, Grayslake. In-Person (virtual option available). This event is free and open to the public. Hosted by Wild Ones Lake-to-Prairie Chapter and the University of Illinois Extension - Lake County.
Please join us as we explore one of Aldo Leopold’s most famous stories about native landscaping; A Prairie Birthday. In this story, he compares the diversity of native plants on his ‘backwards’ farm to those found on the suburban university campus. With poetic flare and pointed observations, Leopold calls into question the landscape ideals that we use to build our communities. Presented by Jeff Hoyer, veteran biology and environmental science teacher.
