Lessons for Living is a free webinar series from University of Illinois Extension. No matter your age, learn valuable life lessons and gain relevant, easy-to-understand tips for living an inspiring, healthful, and rich life.
This webinar series will be held at the Boone County Extension Meeting Room (205 Cadillac Ct., Suite 5, Belvidere) on the dates and times listed below. Participants will gather and watch the webinar together.
July 9 | 2 PM Financial Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults
Disasters and other emergencies can disrupt your finances and your sense of normal. Financial emergency preparedness helps you plan, recover, and rebuild after disasters and emergencies. In this session, you will learn ways to reduce anxiety and stress. With a focus on implications for older adults, we also will explore processes such as building your contact lists before an emergency and watching out for financial fraud following a disaster. Finally, we will review materials to help you build or rebuild your financial preparedness toolkit.
August 15 | 2 PM The Fuel to Fight Cancer
Food is one tool to support cancer prevention, treatment, and care. This lesson will discuss research on how foods may reduce your risk of cancer and ways to incorporate nutrition to help manage side effects of treatment.
September 26 | 10 AM Navigating Changes as We Age
Everyone is aging, and there are many changes that happen along the way - physically, mentally, financially - in about every aspect of our lives. This lesson will examine some of those changes and how to adopt a mindset that is more accepting of change that will result in improved well-being and possibly new opportunities!
October 8 | 10 AM Eating for Eye Health
We all know that carrots are good for the eyes, but what other foods promote eye health? Age-related eye diseases are the leading cause of blindness and impaired vision in the United States, but luckily, there are things you can do to lower the risk. Learn about the common types of eye disorders, how nutrition plays a role in eye health, and what you can do to protect your eyes.
November 14 | 10 AM Estate Planning 101: Know the Basics
There is comfort in knowing that your last wishes are taken care of. Have you ever felt overwhelmed when you hear the words, "estate planning"? In this session we hope you become less fearful of estate planning, learn some basic concepts and terms related to estate planning, and gather some resources to aid you in getting your affairs in order.
There is no fee to attend these webinars hosted by Boone County Extension. Registration is encouraged to ensure we have enough materials printed.
