Illinois Junior Chefs | Montgomery County (Hillsboro July 13-16)

Illinois Junior Chefs is a great way for your child to learn basic cooking skills while having fun! Illinois Junior Chefs is appropriate for ages 9-13. Each lesson focuses on a food group and a cooking or food preparation skill.

During Illinois Junior Chefs, your child will learn how to:
  • Read a recipe
  • Measure and mix ingredients
  • Grate and peel foods
  • Use knives safely
  • Juice citrus fruits
  • Crack an egg

On the last day of class, children will receive a certificate of completion and a cookbook that includes recipes they made during the program. We hope that you will try some of these recipes at home and give your child a chance to show you what they have learned!

For safety and sanitation reasons, we recommend that children enrolled in Illinois Junior Chefs:
  • Wear closed-toed shoes, such as sneakers (no sandals or flip-flops)
  • Pull back and secure long hair with a rubber band or hairband
  • Wear clothing that may get messy or stained during cooking
  • Wear clothing that covers from the shoulders to near the knee to avoid the risk of burns during cooking

This camp will take place July 13-16 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Hillsboro Area Public Library District (420 S. Main St., Hillsboro)
The cost of this program is FREE thanks to Hillsboro Area Public Library District!

Youth must be registered in order to participate! Registration deadline is June 22. This class is limited in size, so register soon.
