Getting the Scoop on Winter Squash! - Stephenson

It may seem hard to believe, but fall is fast approaching. Granted, it doesn't officially start until September 21. However, within the month, we will likely see the beginning signs of the autumn leaves changing, birds migrating, and the last of the local produce harvested. Although that may make some sad, others embrace the fall season for cooler temperatures, vibrant colors, and delicious smells and tastes we have come to love each fall.

One of the fall's most popular and tasty vegetables is winter squash. Winter squash encompasses a variety of squash, such as Acorn, Buttercup, Butternut, Hubbard, Sweet Dumpling, and Spaghetti squash. If you are wondering what to do with all of the winter squash your neighbors keep putting on your front steps, or if you are interested in learning how to make your everyday squash go from ordinary to extraordinary, check one of our fall programming favorites, Getting the Scoop on Winter Squash!

This workshop will discuss various common and not-so-common types of winter squash. As well as how to select and store winter squash to extend its shelf life so you can enjoy it months after harvesting. We will also chat about the nutritional benefits of winter squash, discuss fun ways to incorporate it into everyday life, offer great ideas on preparing and using these culinary favorites, and, best of all, you'll receive some delicious recipes.
