Gardening for Well-Being Series | Montgomery County

Looking for simple ways to reduce stress and boost well-being? Join our Gardening for Well-Being Series on Tuesdays in July from 11 a.m. to noon to explore the therapeutic benefits of gardening and plant-based mindfulness. Each session offers practical, hands-on strategies you can use right away. No green thumb needed, just come ready to learn and participate. These classes will take place at St. Francis Way Clinic, located at 805 St. Francis Way in Litchfield.

July 7 - Therapeutic Benefits of Gardening

Gardening can support mental and physical well‑being by encouraging gentle movement, purposeful activity, and connection to nature. Join this session to learn practical, research-informed ways to use gardening as part of a healthier self-care routine—no “green thumb” required. Participants leave with simple, accessible strategies they can apply immediately to reduce stress, improve mood, and build restorative habits.

July 14 - Mindfulness and Meditation in the Garden | Mindful Garden Walk: Observation Skills for Calm (Indoor or Outdoor)
Practice simple guided observation techniques using plants to slow down and re‑center attention. Attend ready to participate in an easy, accessible mindfulness experience—no gardening background needed. Participants leave with a repeatable practice for stress relief that works anywhere plants are present.

July 21 - Sensory Garden | Sensory Planting for Relaxation: Touch, Scent, and Sound
Learn how to select plants that invite soothing sensory interaction and how to design small sensory moments in a garden or container. Join us to build a “sensory plan” you can use at home, at a facility, or in community spaces. Participants leave with ideas that support inclusive engagement and emotional well‑being.

July 28 - Nature Journaling | Plants & Stress Mini‑Workshop

This hands-on session combines plant-based observation with easy journaling prompts to explore how plants can help regulate stress and strengthen attention—no art skills needed. Come ready to try a guided activity and leave with a journaling template you can use at home, at work, or outdoors. Participants gain a repeatable tool for calming the nervous system, improving focus, and deepening their connection to everyday nature.

We encourage you to attend all four sessions to get the full benefit of the series.
