Montgomery County Extension is hosting a fruit tree grafting workshop on Saturday, March 28. The workshop will be held at 1 Industrial Park Drive in Hillsboro and will be led by Andrew Holsinger, horticulture educator, and Patrick Gibson, orchardist of Heritage Farms in Godfrey, IL.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn the art and science of grafting fruit trees, a technique that can improve fruit quality, increase yield, and enhance tree health. The workshop will cover various grafting methods, including whip and tongue, cleft, and bark grafting, providing attendees with hands-on experience and practical knowledge.
The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to noon. Topics covered will include:
Introduction to Fruit Tree Grafting
Selecting Rootstock and Scion Wood
Grafting Techniques and Tools
Post-Grafting Care and Maintenance
Cost is $30, which includes 2 self-grafted trees. Pre-payment is required.
