"Falling Into Autumn Gardening Series"
The fall season is upon us, and with that bring many different considerations for your home landscape. Join University of Illinois Extension as we offer programs on a variety of topics in this fall series some of which can help you prepare your landscape for next years growing season and others that show fun ways to incorporate pieces of your landscape in your decor.
"Successfully Managing Your Landscape Waste with Compost" will take place on Tuesday, September 16 at both 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. led by Jay Solomon, Natural Resources, Environment, and Energy Educator with University of Illinois Extension. Solomon will talk about how to turn your yard waste into nutrient-rich compost that supports healthier gardens and a more sustainable environment.
"Growing Great Apples" will take place on Saturday, October 4 at 9:30 a.m. led by Grant McCarty, Local Foods and Small Farms Educator with University of Illinois Extension. McCarty will discuss apple varieties suitable for Northern Illinois, seasonal management of common insects and diseases, and the fundamentals of establishing and managing fruit trees.
"Invasive Species: Fall Edition" will take place on Tuesday, October 7 at 1:30 p.m. led by Jay Solomon, University of Illinois Extension Natural Resources, Environment, and Energy Educator. Solomon will talk about which invasive species are best controlled in the fall and the different methods you can use to control them.
"Succulent Dish Garden Workshop: Design, Create, Cultivate" will take place on Thursday, October 16 at 1:30 p.m. led by Nikki Keltner, University of Illinois Extension Program Coordinator. Keltner will talk about how to select, plant, and care for a variety of succulents as well as give tips on soil, drainage, and creative styling. Participants will then get to put their knowledge to the test and create their very own succulent dish to take home with them. There will be a $30 fee to attend this class and all materials needed will be provided.
"Creating with Willow Branches" will take place on Thursday, October 23 at 1:30 p.m. led by Laurie Gothard-Zueger, Jo Daviess County Master Gardener. Laurie will talk about how she harvests the branches from her willow tree and uses them to create unique pieces to include in her home. Each participant will be able to make a willow branch craft to take home with them. There will be a $20 fee to attend and all materials needed will be provided.
