Fall Migration Birding Walk - Lake Kakusha

Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day by joining Illinois Extension for a guided Fall Migration Birding Walk at Lake Kakusha in Mendota. Fall migration is an exciting time for birdwatchers, with more than 140 bird species potentially found in the area as they travel to their wintering grounds.

The program will be led by University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalist Dave Brewer and Adrianh M. Orozco, photographer and experienced birding guide.

Agenda:
7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.: Stationary birding with scopes provided by hike leaders
8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.: Birding walk around Lake Kakusha (approximately 3 miles)

Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and a camera if available. Those interested in enhancing their birding experience may also wish to download the eBird, Merlin Bird ID, and Audubon mobile apps prior to the program. This program is suitable for birders of all experience levels, from beginners to seasoned enthusiasts. Participants are welcome to attend only the stationary birding portion if they would not like to do the hike.

Please meet at the Rotary Shelter/Boat Launch, located by following the road behind the Mendota Civic Center. Signage will be posted at the entrance to help guide attendees to the meeting location.
