You may find it challenging to maintain a healthy body weight if you are like many. Roughly 69% of American adults are considered either overweight or obese. So, why do so many struggle with maintaining a healthy body weight?
Establishing and maintaining a healthy body weight is not just about following a diet plan or being active. It is a culmination of all of our daily choices, those that are made consistently over time. In essence, it is a reflection of our lifestyle. Our lifestyle involves healthy eating patterns, regular physical activity, stress management, and quality sleep. All of these health behaviors work together to impact health and prevent illness.
University of Illinois Extension is partnering with researchers from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to offer Empowered to Make a Change: An Introduction to Weight Management. During this workshop, we will discuss reasons for weight gain, how weight is assessed, the benefits of losing and maintaining a healthy body weight, and offer tips to promote weight loss.
After the workshop, participants will be provided with information about enrolling in EMPOWER, an online weight management research program focusing on sustainable lifestyle changes. The study includes a 12-month virtual program focusing on lifestyle, nutrition, and behavioral health education, empowering participants to create a personalized diet plan based on targeted levels of protein and fiber to promote weight loss.
Join Diane Reinhold, Nutrition and Wellness Educator, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, at the Stephenson County Extension Office located at 2998 W Pearl City Road, Freeport.
