ECIMN Presents: Loda Prairie Tour

The registration period has ended.
Tour of Loda Prairie with Site Stewards

When: Friday, June 6, 10 am to noon
Where: Loda Cemetery Prairie Nature Preserve, Pine Ridge Cemetery, Loda, IL 60948

Join Site Stewards Beckie Green and Terri Freehill-Davis to explore a unique and expanding nature preserve owned by Grand Prairie Friends. Learn about biodiversity, observation, land management, and iNaturalist projects from the people who experience it the most! Access to this site is by tour only.

Loda Cemetery Prairie is also home to the Illinois endangered Eastern Prairie Fringed Orchid, and to be sure these sensitive plants continue to live in that space, site stewards actively hand-pollinate the flowers to give them a better chance at producing seeds. There is no guarantee the orchids will make themselves known. For more information on this species, check out this article by Horticulture Educator Ryan Pankau: Eastern Prairie Fringed Orchid.

For more information on cemetery prairies, check out this video by the Illinois Botanizer, Chris Benda: https://youtu.be/iSqqm0FeCL4

Please wear long pants and boots, with long socks. This is prime tick habitat. Also recommended are: a long-sleeved shirt, a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and water.

For reasonable accommodations to participate, please contact Karla Griesbaum, kherzma2@illinois.edu
