“Beneficial insects, bugs in your back yard and more!”
Description :
We often pay attention to the insects that we consider pests or are harmful to ourselves, our gardens and our natural areas. Yet many insects are extremely beneficial. These beneficial insects are all around us and help us in ways we usually do not consider. How can we make sure they continue to thrive? Join Dr. Tommy McElrath for an enlightening talk about some of these important, beneficial insects. Then explore firsthand some specimens of local and exotic, colorful and ugly, good and bad bugs from the Illinois Natural History Survey’s Insect Collection. This collection comprises about 7 million prepared specimens and is one of the largest and oldest entomological collections in North America.
