Description: This seminar explores how early people procured and processed food in Illinois and how archaeologists reconstruct ancient diets and cooking practices. We’ll also touch on how some of the animals people encountered as they moved around the landscape became beloved pets.
Description: This seminar explores how early people procured and processed food in Illinois and how archaeologists reconstruct ancient diets and cooking practices. We’ll also touch on how some of the animals people encountered as they moved around the landscape became beloved pets.
Presenter Bio: Sarah Wisseman is a retired University of Illinois archaeologist who directed an interdisciplinary research program before joining the Illinois State Archaeological Survey near the end of her career. Her favorite topics are the science of mummies, reproducing ancient ceramics, and detecting forgeries.
