Starting the Conversation: Farm Succession Planning Strategies and Resources for Illinois Farm Families

Succession planning is an important task that farm operators and their families should discuss regularly, but it is often overlooked or ignored. This presentation will discuss why succession planning is important, how to build a succession plan, and how to begin the conversation.

Hands-on activities  will be part of the event and include:
  1. What happens with no succession plan? - participants will group together and consider a scenario of a farm operation with no succession plan.
  2. Identifying tensions - participants will individually write down people who have a stake in their operation and then identify the biggest tension with that person.
  3. One year later, participants will write down one succession planning goal they will accomplish in the next year.

This workshop will be led by Reagen Tibbs, Commercial Agriculture Educator, University of Illinois Extension.

April 7 from 6:30–8:00 p.m. at the Lena Community Center, 497 Lions Dr., Lena, IL 61048. Registration is $5.
