Composting with worms

Learn about the fascinating world of worms!

February 25, 2026 | 10:00 am

This class will teach you to use worms to turn organic waste into nutrient-rich soil amendments (castings) for plants – called vermicomposting!  This program will cover setup, maintenance, worm care, and managing the bin (with options from beginner home setups to commercial business courses). You'll learn to build worm habitats, understand worm anatomy, create "worm tea," reduce kitchen waste sustainably, and receive a starter kit filled with worms.

If you need reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, contact Holly Froning, at froning@illinois.edu or 815-933-8337. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting your access needs.
