CCMG: Soft Landings and Native Restorations in Sunny and Shady Yardscapes

Date: October 27, 2026
Time:
7 pm CST
Location:
Extension Auditorium, 801 N Country Fair Dr, Champaign, IL
Speaker:
Eric Mollahan

Do you have areas under your trees where nothing grows? Eric Mollahan, Executive Director of the Land Conservation Foundation, will discuss shade gardens under mature trees using the "Soft Landing" concept. He will continue to talk about the process of applying it as you develop the garden, with very specific steps and plant lists. He will also discuss how to develop this concept on the sunny edges of the trees.

You will learn:
  • Why native yardscapes play an essential role in future conservation endeavors.
  • How to assess your yard for native plantings.
  • Understand the implementation of the site preparation process for native plantings.
  • Key management and monitoring techniques that will result in a successful native community.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate, contact Valerie Nicolini at vln3@illinois.edu
