CCMG: Pest Resistant Bulbs

Date: September 8, 2026
Time:
12:00 pm CST
Location:
Online
Speaker:
Brent Heath, Co-Owner of Brent and Becky's Bulbs

As much as we love the beauty, color, and fragrances of bulb gardens, most seasoned gardeners know that bulbs can be a dessert buffet to a variety of critters. Come join us on Zoom for a "Lunch and Learn" presentation by Brent Heath. Brent is a third-generation bulb grower and co-owner with his wife Becky of the award-winning business Brent and Becky's Bulbs. His topic will be "Pest Resistant Bulbs".

You will learn:
  • Types of flower bulbs that naturally resist the attacks of critters such as deer, rabbits, squirrels, voles, and insects
  • How to make edible bulbs such as lilies, tulips, and crocus more pest-resistant with an assortment of remedies, which make the bulbs or leaves taste or smell bad to foraging critters
  • How to create physical barriers to thwart the bulb monsters and keep them at bay

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate, contact Valerie Nicolini at vln3@illinois.edu
