April 27 - Head Strong: Exercise Strategies to Enhance Memory and Thinking
Are you headstrong about keeping your head strong? Challenging the brain, especially as you grow older can be beneficial. Many of us enjoy working on puzzles and games that require us to think and stretch our minds. Researchers agree that intellectual challenge is beneficial throughout life. Tune in to learn about lifestyle factors that contribute to brain health, and strategies to enhance thinking.
May 4 - Hold That Thought: Explore Strategies for Forgetfulness
Have you ever gone into a room and couldn’t remember why you went in there? Misplaced your keys or cell phone? Forgotten what you were about to say? If you’ve answered “yes,” you are not alone! Everyone forgets things now and again, and this happens throughout life. Memory changes as we age, but forgetfulness is common for people at all stages of life. This workshop will look at the memory process and what researchers say contributes to brain health, as well as strategies for helping with everyday forgetfulness.
May 11 - Fit Wits: Keep Your Brain Healthy and Engaged
Keeping your wits fit requires more than just doing crossword puzzles or word searches. There is increasing evidence that brain health is directly related to body health. This should come as no surprise since the brain and the body function interdependently. However, most people think more about keeping their bodies fit or their hearts healthy than working at maintaining a healthy brain. Learn more about the aging brain and what you can do to keep your brain healthy and engaged.
May 18 - Dementia Friends
Dementia Friends is a global movement developed by the Alzheimer's Association. The goal is to help everyone in a community understand five key messages about dementia, how it affects people, and how we each can make a difference in the lives of people living with the disease. People with dementia need to be understood and supported in their communities. You can help by becoming a Dementia Friend!
University of Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in programming, contact your local Extension office. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting your needs.
