Birdwatching Hike - Dixon Waterfowl Refuge - July

Enjoy a guided hike through the scenic wetlands led by Illinois Extension’s Master Naturalist volunteers. The 3,000 acre Refuge is home to more than 730 native plant species and 270 bird species. Thousands of migrating waterfowl use Hennepin & Hopper Lakes as a critical stopover during the spring migration. Explore the wetlands and learn about the important conservation work being done at the Refuge.
This program is suitable for all ages and levels of birdwatching experience, from curious beginners to seasoned enthusiasts. For the July hike we will be doing some stationary birding at Oak Island. Participants are encouraged to bring a chair to sit in, binoculars, and wear long pants/socks to prevent ticks. Dixon staff will drive participants to Oak Island. Please meet at the Marquis Oak Ridge Trail parking lot.
