The Leedle family will share their beekeeping expertise during the final program of the 2023 Modern Homesteading series. Doug Leedle grew up beekeeping with his father and has been keeping bees ever since. He is a University of Montana Master Beekeeper and the current Southern Director of the Illinois State Beekeepers Association. His wife, Rose married into the bees, and she is currently the President of the Illinois State Beekeepers Association. Their three sons, Josh, Andy, and Matt along with their families are all part of their family-owned beekeeping supply business.
They will cover "Life in a Beehive" by discussing the following topics:
- History of Beekeeping
- Components of a hive
- Cast of honeybees and their individual contributions to the hive
- Taking care of the colony
- Making honey
