B in Nature: Bugs, Beavers, Butterflies, and Beyond

Join University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalists at the ParkLands Foundation's Lexington Preserve in Lexington, IL on Saturday, June 27th from 9 am - Noon to learn about everything from beavers to butterflies, dragonflies to damselflies, rattlesnake master to reptiles, and beyond! The Lexington Preserve is located at 6 Timber Ridge Dr. Lexington, IL 61753.

All activities are designed to be enjoyed at your own pace. Spend as much or as little time at each station as you would like. To allow time to fully enjoy each activity, please arrive no later than 10 am.
 
Several activity tables will be set up along the trail where you will learn about topics including:
  • Safety in Nature
  • Using the iNaturalist App
  • Dragonfly & Damselfly Identification
  • Native Plants
  • Praying Mantises
  • Tree Identification
  • Beavers
The entire activity trail is approximately 1 mile. There is a point to turn around about halfway through.

As a part of the Nature Quest Challenge, we will also take photos of as much wildlife as possible and submit those photos to the iNaturalist app. All participants ages 13+ are eligible to submit photos to iNaturalist. The person who submits the most observations of different insect species will win a prize basket donated by the University of Illinois Extension Illinois Grand Prairie Master Naturalists!

As an event participant for the ParkLands Foundation or the parent/guardian of an event participant, I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury and I agree to assume full responsibility of any injuries, including death, damages or loss which I or my minor child/ward may sustain as a result of participating in the program. I do hereby fully release and discharge the ParkLands Foundation and its officers, agents, servants, and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damage or loss which I or my minor child/ward may have or which may accrue to me on account of participation in the program. In the event of an emergency, I authorize ParkLands Foundation officials to secure from any licensed hospital, physician, and/or medical personnel or good samaritan first aid providers, any treatment deemed necessary for my immediate care and agree that I will be responsible for payment of any and all medical services rendered. In addition, I hereby consent to the use of my photograph in ParkLands Foundation brochures, publications, slide presentations, etc. I have read and fully understand the above details of the event participant program waiver and release of all claims and permission to secure medical treatment.
