4-H In Space: Laboratory for Advanced Space Systems at Illinois (LASSI) 4-H Tour & Illini Sat Pilot
Sorry, we have reached our maximum number of registrants for this opportunity.
This is a last minute opportunity, and with a big payoff for those able to attend. Parents and families are welcome! You do not need to be an enrolled 4-H Member to attend! ONLY 24 Spaces Availible!
With the accumulated experience of 60 years, availability of miniaturized technology, and readily available launch opportunities to low earth orbit, it is now possible for students to define, develop, and operate a space mission. The Laboratory for Advanced Space Systems at Illinois (LASSI) supports students, faculty, and other customers utilizing small satellite resources designed, developed, and tested at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. An interdisciplinary collaboration between Illinois 4-H and LASSI (Department of Aerospace Engineering) makes it possible for middle and high school STEM students to participate in a real satellite program and see their experiments launched into space!
This Saturday, 9/16 Illinois 4-H will be hosted by the Laboratory for Advanced Space Systems at Illinois (LASSI), at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, and will be providing an in-depth tour of their new lab and small sattelite/ space center. In addition, youth will pilot activities designed by LASSI and 4-H to accompany the IlliniSat-0 curriculum and will be able to provide feedback for the program. Each activity is designed to give youth hands on experience building and programing a sattelite ground station and micro sattelite. In 2024, these activities will be piloted state wide, with the IlliniSat-0 being flown into orbit and this is your opportunity to become a part of that!
Youth will have the chance to interact with Aerospace Engineering Faculty and Students, while getting to experience the work that they do in preparation for real space missions. If you are interested in Engineering, Aerospace, Math or Science, this is a unique opportunity to get hands on with the technology, and network with potential future University of Illinois classmates and professors. Those that participate will be eligible to join the next round of Mission Command Team Members that will be helping to organize, teach curriculum, and launch IlliniSat-0 to orbit.
