4-H Clover Clinic 2025


What is 4-H Clover Clinic?

4-H Clover Clinic is a fun and educational event designed for youth to learn about 4-H projects though participating in a series of engaging, hands-on workshops. Participants can choose up to 4 workshops and explore a variety of interests, discover hidden talents, and find new things that spark their interest.

Do I need to be a 4-H member?

Absolutely not! Whether you're a seasoned 4-H member or completely new to the experience, everyone is encouraged to join in the fun and exploration at 4-H Clover Clinic. All youth aged 8-18 are welcome!

  • Date: Saturday, February 15, 2025
  • Time: 9am – 3:45pm
  • Location: Illinois Central College, 1 College Dr, East Peoria, IL 61611
  • Lunch Break: Bring a sack lunch to fuel your energy for the exciting afternoon ahead!

Registration Details
:
  • Cost: $20, includes a drawstring bag (fee waivers available)
  • Ages: Any youth 8-18
  • Classes: Select 2 workshops in the morning and 2 after lunch (double sessions are longer and count as 2). Most workshops are offered twice to make sure you can attend your favorites!
  • First Come, First Served: Classes fill up fast, so secure your spot early! Please be sure to complete a separate registration for each child.


Morning Workshops:
  • Build a Birdhouse –  Participants will learn some basics of woodworking and build a small birdhouse to take home with them.
  • Charcuterie Cups– Creativity Meets Culinary Delight! Learn the art of building the perfect charcuterie cup. A fun and portable twist on traditional charcuterie boards. Explore a variety of meats, cheese, fruits and crackers!
  • Fossils Rock! – We will talk about the rock cycle and how rocks and fossils are formed. We will try to identify some of the fossils using microscopes. Everyone will get to take a rock with a fossil home.
  • German  Stars  – Make traditional German Star ornaments using only strips of paper and some simple repeated folds.
  • Glass Etching - Once you learn the basics to glass etching you can let your creativity flow with a wide variety of visual arts projects. Design a vase or glass with your own design using tape, stickers, and etching cream.
  • Hydroponic Fun – Learn how plants can grow in water without soil and take home a seed hand!
  • Needle Felting – In this workshop, you will learn how to needle felt and make your own needle felted watermelon coaster to take home.
  • No Sew T-Shirt Bags – Upscale an old t-shirt into something new!  Learn how to take a t-shirt and make a bag.
  • Paper Quilling – Learn how to use various paper quilling tools to make this 3-D type of paper art. There will be a lead project and ti me to make your own creations.
  • Paracord - A Sportsman's best Friend – Any good sportsman knows several essential knots and also utilizes paracord for many purposes in their boating/hunting/fishing/camping adventures.  Participants will learn several essential knots and weave a custom paracord bracelet to take home.   This paracord will then be handy and readily available next time your boat needs tied up; your tent needs staked out; you forgot your fishing stringer, or you need to haul your bow up into your deer stand.

 Afternoon Workshops:
  • Art Journals – Do you like to doodle and draw? Decorate a special journal to keep all your drawings and sketches together, then brainstorm different ideas to get your creativity flowing for what you can draw inside!
  • Bead'n Around with Jewelry – Make your own beads from clay whether it's your first time or not. Then we will make bracelets with our beads! (This is a double session. It will count as both of your afternoon workshops.)
  • Buzz, Flutter and Fly, Our Beloved Pollinators in Action – We will learn interesting and exciting facts about bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. We will also create crafts involving our favorite pollinators, learn about their preferred flowers, and receive seeds to plant in your home pollinator garden. Take home information is part of this fast and fun hour!
  • Crafty Card Creations – Get creative and design your very own greeting cards at this card-making workshop! You'll get to try fun paper crafting techniques like using color, layout, tools, and embellishments to make cards that are as unique as you are!
  • Is it Magic? No, it's Kitchen Science!– Make and take a sweet microwave treat, while exploring kitchen science.
  • Let's Explore Field Guides – Field Guides are wonderful resources available in many in different topics. We will look at a variety of different guides and explore how to use them. Participants will create their own basic field guide with pre-printed information and images they make from rubbings of flowers, insects or leaves. 
  • Mini Terrarium – Make your own mini terrarium.  Each participant will design the terrarium with a plant, bark, and rock.  Learn all the steps to create a fabulous tiny plant world.
  • Natural Dye – Come enjoy a hands-on natural dyeing workshop where you will learn all about the art and chemistry of plants while using ancient Japanese shibori folding techniques.
  • Origami – Learn the basics of origami and make something to take home.
  • South Korean Gimbap – Learn about South Korean culture and learn to make Gimbap
  • Tissue Paper on Canvas Art – Combine tissue paper, plus glue and paint to create a one of a kind textured canvas!

Risks of Extension Activities: I understand that my participation in University of Illinois Extension activities can present risks of physical injury (including death or disability) to me and damage to my personal property. The University of Illinois does not guarantee my personal health or safety or protect me against property loss. Physical injury to me or property damage may result from known or unexpected risks arising from things such as: use of equipment, materials, or facilities; environmental conditions, including poisonous plants, insects, and extreme heat or cold and other weather-related hazards; natural disasters; water activities; transportation; actions of others; animal behaviors; unavailability of immediate or adequate emergency care; infectious diseases; and slips and falls. The potential dangers include, among other things, gunshot or archery wounds that can result in paralysis or loss of vision, limb, or life. Assumption of Risks and Release of Claims: In consideration for allowing me to participate in Extension activities, I voluntarily assume all risk of injury and loss that I may sustain or suffer in connection with my participation in the activities described in this Agreement, and I forever and fully release, waive, and discharge all claims, demands, actions, and causes of action, known or unknown, that I have or that may accrue to me in the future (“Claims”) against the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, its officers, employees, agents, and volunteers (individually a “Releasee”) for personal injuries (including death), damage to property, and all liabilities, losses, costs, and expenses (including attorney fees) arising out of or resulting from my participation in Extension activities, including all Claims arising, in whole or in part, from the negligence of any Releasee.
