2026 Lake County Master Naturalist Application

Thank you for your interest in the University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalist Program. This program will provide science-based educational opportunities that connect people with nature and help them become engaged environmental stewards. As a Master Naturalist, you'll earn volunteer hours participating in citizen science activities, restoration work days, and nature programming. During the training, you'll learn from local and statewide experts to acquire environmental knowledge, interpretation skills, and connect with other nature enthusiasts across the county.

  1. Once application materials have been reviewed, you may be invited for a short 30-minute question and answer session with Extension staff.
  2. Accepted applicants will attend all training sessions, online and in-person, from August-November (see schedule below) and pay the $275 course fee.
  3. Complete 60 hours of volunteer service on approved volunteer projects over the course of two years.

The 2026 Master Naturalist Training is scheduled to run from August 17th-November 6th. Please note that this schedule is tentative and subject to change.
