4-H Green Communities Tree Planting Project in partnership with Kendall County Soil and Water Conservation District
Did you know that Illinois once was home to 14 million acres of trees, but that number has dropped to 5 million due to modern development practices? Illinois 4-H has partnered with Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts to help turn the tide by planting oak trees in dozens of counties across Illinois this spring and we need YOUR help!

We will be planting fire-resistant, native oak species in public spaces where the community can enjoy the benefits. These 25-tree savannas will help rebuild our native ecosystems, 3/4 of an acre at a time:
  • Add trees to a local park and bike trail area
  • Help the environment and your community
  • Gain service hours for your school and/or a state activity for 4-H records
  • Build a legacy for future generations to enjoy

4-H families and community members are invited to join the Green Trees Planting Project with 4-H and University of Illinois Extension in partnership with the Kendall County Soil and Water Conservation District.

A few important notes:
  • An adult/parent/guardian will need to be present for 4-H youth participants under age 16
  • Feel free to bring tools, especially shovels
  • You also may want to bring water to drink. Snacks will be provided.
  • Please wear close-toed shoes and dress appropriate for the weather and for getting dirty!
  • In case of inclement weather, any changes would be emailed prior to the event.
