Join us for the 2023 Hunger & Health Illinois Conference! Hosted by Illinois SNAP-Education Conference Goal: Catalyze collaboration among local, public, and regional organizations around addressing food insecurity and health.
University of Illinois Extension will host one location in March 2023. This registration will be for the Oglesby location.
Check-in will be held from 9:00-10:00 in the morning. A conference agenda will be available when you arrive. The cost of registration is $10. Lunch is included. Fee waivers are available.
Pre-Conference: Food Handlers Training will be available from 8:00-9:30 am.

Healthy Donations Initiatives
Have you ever wondered how you can influence the donations received at your pantry? Join this session and learn how connecting with local agencies can help you provide these highly requested foods. Walk away from this session, being able to compare approaches and identifying steps to start connect with healthy donations by hearing from individuals from state, regional, and local partners working directly with food pantry partners
Find Food Funds
Increasing access to nutritious and culturally relevant foods is especially challenging when budgets are low. Join this session to hear from organizations that have successfully received funding and what tips and trips they used to maintain successful. Additionally, hear from funding agencies about what they look for in successful applications.
Supporting Wellness at Pantries (SWAP)
Identifying nutritious foods at a food pantry can be challenging for both food pantry guests and food pantry staff. Learn strategies to nutritionally rank foods via the spotlight system, SWAP. In this session participants will learn strategies to help promote donation and selection of nutritious foods at their pantry. Additionally, pantries will hear from a food pantry that has successfully implemented SWAP at their food pantry.
Trauma and Food
Becoming “trauma-informed” means recognizing that people often have many different types of traumas in their lives. People who have been traumatized need support and understanding from those around them. Often, trauma survivors can be re-traumatized by well-meaning caregivers and community service providers. In this session, participants will learn how to shift their thinking and apply a trauma-informed approach to their food pantries.
Awards
Awards will be handed out in the following categories: Exceptional Food Pantry Manager, Healthy Pantry Initiatives, Outstanding Health Equity Leader, Innovative Food Programming and Volunteer of the Year. Any organization is eligible to apply for awards including, but not limited to: schools, food pantries, food banks, etc. Please follow this link for further descriptions and to nominate a pantry, individual or organization for an award.
